3 Day Mould Making and Casting Workshop

This workshop is for creatives who have a sculpture or other item they wish to learn the skills to make a mould using the ‘painted mould’ technique. This is also known as a ‘Skin and jacket’ mould technique.
It would be best suited to those who have an intermediate skill level and some experience with silicone, although beginners are welcome.

The participants will bring with them a sculpture piece no larger than 400×250 mm.

Over the 3 days we will do an in depth analysis into best mould making practices, application of silicone, using thickening agents, creating a multi-part plaster jacket and creating a cast in plaster or resin.
Class sizes are limited to ensure lots of one-on-one attention.

UPCOMING WORKSHOP DATES:
Thurs-Sat 15,16,17th Feb 2018
Sat, Sun Sat 3,4 and 10th March 2018

Mould Making and Casting Workshop

Day 1
Participants learn will how to set up the sculpture ready for mould making.
We will look at the various shapes and discuss problem areas, air venting and placement of seam lines.
Next we will apply the layers of silicone over the sculpture.
After lunch we will finish applying our silicone and add seams and drip coat.

Day 2
We will spend the morning neatening up our silicone coating and segmenting our mould into 2 or 3 pieces as required by the form.
Once we have decided on the placement of our jacket segments we will begin to apply our plaster and matting to create the jacket pieces.
